Event Title: Pulau Tinggi - Sibu Marine Park RIVER Ranger TOT

Pulau Tinggi and Pulau Sibu were the last two islands selected by Jabatan Taman Laut Malaysia to be funded under “Conserving Marine Biodiversity through Enhanced Marine Park Management and Inclusive Sustainable Island Development” UNDP Project funded by GEF. The Project Working Group (PWG) meeting for this programme was conducted on the 8th April 2013 at Mersing Johor, The meeting was chaired by the Johor Marine Park Director En. Mohd Nizam B. Ismail.

The RIVER Ranger Training of Trainer (ToT) was conducted on 12th and 13th June 2013 at Chalet Che Mok, Pulau Tinggi. The training was conducted for both schools from Pulau Tinggi and Pulau Sibu for the duration of two days.. First day of the training focuses on the PowerPoint presentation and talk on River Ranger. The talk also covered the existing issues in the islands and the action students can take to address the problem.

On the second day, the students was divided into two groups to conduct the river monitoring activity at the river stretch at Pulau Tinggi Marine Park's office. The river monitoring activity includes the physical, chemical and biological monitoring. The students were exposed on the river basin concept, were able to touch and experience the nature in addition to the exposure to the river montoring activities. All the river monitoring data can be excessed through the River Ranger website.
