Event Title: Pulau Redang Marine Park RIVER Ranger

For Pulau Redang, Sekolah Kebangssan Pulau Redang was choosen by the Marine Park Department to be trained as RIVER Ranger under the project. Clearance from Ministry of Education, Terengganu State Education department as well as Kuala Terengganu District Education office took a duration of two months (January to February 2013). After the approval, the headmaster of the School; En. Joni Bin Mohamad was contacted through Kuala Terengganu District Education Office. Cikgu Marfiq Haziq Bin Mohamad was consulted and was in charge to help GEC to conduct the Training of Trainers (TOT) on RIVER Ranger Programme for 20 students and 2 teachers on the 14th and 15th of March 2013.

For the Redang Island, the stakeholders which act as the main task force was proposed to be inclusive of the Terengganu Marine Park Department, Terengganu Department of Irrigation and Drainage, Terengganu State Education Department and Kuala Terengganu District Education office as well as Terengganu State Department of Environment. This force will be known as the RIVER Ranger Programme Working Group (PWG) consisting by those highly involved during the programme implementation phase.

Project Working Group

The first PWG meeting was conducted on 14th March 2013, 230 p.m at the Redang Island Resort. All the proposed stakeholders eventually agree to be part of the committee in assisting towards the success of the project.

Training of Trainer RIVER Ranger

Training of Trainers (TOT) on RIVER Ranger Programme for 20 students and 2 teachers of SK Pulau Redang was conducted on the 14th and 15th of March 2013. The TOT session involved the RIVER Ranger Module presentation emphasising on water and river pollution as well as how to minimise and control pollutition locally. This was followed with hands-on training on water quality monitoring through physical, chemical and biological. Moreover the participants were also taught on pollution mapping and were exposed to identify their pollution source in their schools as part of their inititaves/implementation projects.
