The one-day SMART Ranger training was successfully conducted at SK Damansara Utama, bringing together 54 participants — 40 students and 14 teachers from 7 participating schools. The training is part of ongoing SMART Ranger Programme involving schools in Sg Kayu Ara Catchment.

Organised by the Global Environment Centre (GEC) and funded by OSK Foundation, with the approval and support of Selangor State Education Department, the training equipped participants with:

• enhancement of awareness and skills on holistic solid waste and resources management, and
• promoted sustainable practices through theory and hands-on learning.

Dr. Kalithasan and Mr. Sathis from GEC led sessions covering SMART Ranger Modules 1–4, focusing on waste management and environmental stewardship as well as emphasis given on type of initiatives that can be carried out. Practical session followed with activities carried out such as art of recycling, composting, eco-enzyme production, and water conservation activities.

The event wrapped up with a Way Forward session encouraging schools to propose and implement practical environmental initiatives at their respective schools.
