THE reason for the bad odour coming from lakes in Taman Jaya and Taman Aman parks in Petaling Jaya has been identified.
With little to no electricity supply to the aerators at both lakes, water has not been cleaned regularly, resulting in the foul stench.
The stagnant water also raises concerns that it will attract mosquitoes and pose a threat to the public’s health.
“Despite spending so much money on the aerators, they have not been working for over six months now,” said Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) councillor Derek Fernandez during the council’s monthly full board meeting.
The four aerators in the Taman Jaya lake cost MBPJ about RM250,000.
MBPJ Landscape Department said that electricity supply there had always been a problem and without enough power, the aerators were not able to function.
